(Beaver Dam) An annual celebration that recognizes young children, their teachers and family’s begins today. The Week of the Young Child is put on by the National Association for the Education of Young Children which is an organization that promotes high-quality early learning by connecting childhood practice, policy and research. Beaver Dam’s Community Care Preschool and Child Care Director Renae Henning says her facility has several special events planned. She says, among other events, Mayor Becky Glewen will be visiting and a representative from the Horicon Wildlife will show off a lop-eared bunny. Community Care Preschool and Child Care was recently honored with a five-star accreditation from the state. Henning says it means that the care center went above and beyond the standards set by the state for health and safety. She says one of their focus areas are intentional planning for children. Henning also played an important role in assisting the passage of a bill that will increase the state’s spending on child care subsidies by five-percent annually.
