Beaver Dam Police Offering Citizens Police Academy

2/2/17 – Applications are being accepted for the Beaver Dam Police Department’s 14th Annual Citizens Police Academy. Officer Bill Linzenmeyer says the 10-week course covers a number of topics including firearms training, defensive tactics, OWI procedures, tours of the Dodge County Jail and court system and cadets even participate in a ride-along. The academy is not designed to certify citizens to perform law enforcement services but is taught by Beaver Dam police officers. The program has graduated 159 citizen cadets in the past 13 years. The course is free of charge, but is limited to 12 applicants who must be 18 years old, have a clean record and either reside, work or own property in Beaver Dam. The program begins March 6th and continues most Monday or Tuesday evenings through May 15th, typically between 6pm and 9pm. There is one Saturday daytime class scheduled. Applications can be picked up at the police department. The deadline is February 22. Additional contact information is available on today’s homepage at wbevradio.com.
