Beaver Dam Ordinance Would Outlaw Sexting By Minors

5/16/17 – The city of Beaver Dam’s Administrative Committee last night advanced an ordinance that would prohibit sexting by minors. The law as drafted is modeled after similar ordinance in other Wisconsin communities. Currently if two underage children exchange images of themselves by text message, the only recourse is to file felony charges or to do nothing. The ordinance would allow for a penalty that does not require becoming a lifetime registered sex offender. The ordinance passed through committee unanimously and now heads to the full council for consideration.
