Beaver Dam Ordinance Would Outlaw Entering Unlocked Cars

6/6/17 – The Beaver Dam Administrative Committee last night advanced an ordinance to the full council that would criminalize entering an unlocked vehicle. Currently, it is only a violation of city ordinance to break into a locked vehicle and even if caught authorities have to prove an intent to steal. Police Chief John Kreuziger says there were 390 property thefts last year, many from rummaging through open cars, and the ordinance would help curb the problem.
