Beaver Dam Mural Fest Still Needs Support

(Beaver Dam) A lot of pieces still need to fall into place before one of Beaver Dam’s largest events of 2017.  In this fourth installment of a five part series on this summer’s ‘Decorate the Dam festival, we look at what is needed ahead of 200 plus artists from around the world converging on Beaver Dam to paint over a dozen murals in the city’s downtown. Festival Chairwoman Karla Jensen expects the entire festival will cost well over $100,000 as each mural alone costs $7,500.  While artists must pay for their travel and boarding, if they choose not to stay with a host family, all other expenses are covered by the community.  Jensen says folks can get involved by offering to house an artist, donating money to create one of the murals, or joining one of the festival’s eight committees, which include food, transportation, and entertainment for the artists.  Anyone interested in learning more or donating is encouraged to contact Downtown Beaver Dam Inc, at bddowntown.com.  ‘Decorate the Dam’ runs from June 28 through July 2.  The murals are meant to beautify the downtown and bolster tourism.  In tomorrow’s final installment, we will look at a special promotion that is helping fund one of the murals.
