Beaver Dam Man Accused of Burglary Will Head To Trial

12/15/17 – A Beaver Dam man is heading to trial for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing jewelry. Travis Cotten is charged with felony Burglary and Possessing a Firearm as a Convicted Felon. In March, Dodge County Sherriff deputies responded to an alarm at a rural Beaver Dam residence on County Highway G. They noticed two sets of tracks outside, jewelry scattered on the floor of the home, and the top drawer of a jewelry box missing. Around $3000 dollars in jewelry was stolen. In June, a tip was made to police that Cotten and another individual used the tipster’s truck in the burglary. Cotten and an unnamed suspect apparently asked for a ride to a friend’s house but apparently lied and instead wound up committing the burglary. The 30-yeard-old Cotton reportedly told investigators that he never got out the car. When police questioned the unnamed suspect, he reportedly said Cotten was the person who broke in and when the alarms went off they all panicked. If convicted, Cotten faces over 22 years in prison. An arraignment hearing is scheduled in February.
