Beaver Dam Makes Entry To Unlocked Vehicles A Crime

7/18/17 – The Beaver Dam Common Council Monday night approved an ordinance change that makes it a crime to enter an unlocked vehicle. City ordinance had already outlawed breaking into a locked vehicle. Police Chief John Kreuziger say the change allows the problem to be addressed on a municipal level or for charges to be forwarded to the District Attorney. He says there were 390 property thefts last year, many from rummaging through open cars and, prior to last night’s action, there was very little law enforcement could have done even if a suspect was caught red-handed.  Kreuziger says the new ordinance will help curb the problem.
