12/4/17 – It was another successful year for the Beaver Dam Holiday Parade. Organizer Kay Appenfeldt with Downtown Beaver Dam Inc says the parade on Saturday was fabulous with over 50 floats entered, including five trucks from the fire department. She had high praise for the community saying every float was done so well and the amount of lights, the amount of work and the amount of people who turned out on the street was just “awesome.” The $75 first prize for best parade entry went to St. Katharine Drexel while Dance Now Studio’s took home the $50 second prize. The Highland Prairie 4-H won $25 for third place. Harmony Baptist Church and the Snow Cats rounded out the top five. In addition to monetary awards, the winners also received a plaque from the senior center wood shop. Incidentally, all seven members of the Senior Center Wood Shop were named the parade’s Grand Marshall. Terry Appenfeldt is the shop manager says it was quite a surprise for the guys in shop. He says they were “tickled pink.” Since the guys from the wood shop were busy on the parade route, Appenfeldt says their elves helped pass out the wooden toy cars they make for children attending each year.
