Beaver Dam Girl Wants Military Care Packages Filled For Birthday

10/19/17 – A Beaver Dam girl who is celebrating her tenth birthday this weekend is asking for care package items for overseas military troops instead of toys for herself. For her ninth birthday, Navaeha Smolen asked for donations for American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison and she delivered $500 in May. Navaeha and her mother Wendy are working with Blue Star Mothers of America. Items needed include necessities like shampoos, deodorant and hygiene products, individually-wrapped snacks like peanuts, cookies and protein bars and stuff to help pass the time like foam footballs and basketballs, playing cards and crossword puzzle books. Navaeha’s fourth grade classmates are helping out too by writing letters to the servicemen and women to send along with the care packages. The public is invited to bring a care package item to the birthday party Saturday (10/21) at the Fox Lake American Legion from 2pm to 5pm.
