(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department will be conducting a live fire training next weekend. The structure located on N6720 County Road G was acquired by the department from the William Bohl Land Trust. Captain and Training Officer Lee Smith says the opportunity provides fire personnel the chance to train with real fire conditions. Lee says that firefighters need to feel the heat and experience disorientation and the loss of sight in hot, smoke-filled environments. He adds that live training provides real-time, real-world experiences that cannot be duplicated in the classroom. The training will be conducted on September 22 starting at 8:30am and will be completed before 2pm. Lee says the surrounding area will see a moderate amount of smoke and that the department will monitor smoke conditions as well as traffic in order to make necessary adjustments.
