4/4/17 – The Beaver Dam Common Council Monday night unanimously approved a resolution dedicating property as a city park for a local sports club looking to build a soccer complex. The Beaver Dam Unified Soccer Club is developing 22-acres along with west side of Distribution Way near Wal-Mart. Jim Jansen with the eight-year-old, non-profit soccer club says the group has raised $40-thousand dollars for the project. The plan is eight soccer fields, a concession stand, a pavilion, restrooms and a walking track. In addition to a home field for area youth, Jansen notes that a soccer complex would have economic benefits attracting people to the community resulting in additional revenues for local hotels and restaurants. Upkeep like mowing will be a responsibility of the soccer club. Jansen says the hope is to have a couple fields ready to use for practice this year. The program has around 300 youth participants. The goal is to not raise fees for children and to pay for upkeep through tournaments. The complex becomes the city of Beaver Dam’s 24th park.
