(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam police chief says a vital part of keeping crosswalks safe is now under his department’s budget. For years, the budget for crossing guards had been included in the Department of Public Works due to potential layoff concerns following the passage of ACT 10. Chief John Kreuziger says the move makes sense because the police department recruits, trains and helps equip the crossing guards. Kreuziger says through discussion with the city’s labor attorney, all parties agreed that moving the crossing guard budget back under police department control was a good idea. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Kreuziger said this will help further the partnership development between his staff and the crossing guards. Kreuziger says the move is in effect for this year’s budget.
