2/21/17 – The Beaver Dam Common Council last night approved the sale of 3.3 acres of city-owned land to Moraine Park Technical College. The $2.3-million-dollar expansion is planned along the east side of their existing building for a new gas utility technician program. The council also approved a resolution discontinuing the portion of School Street north of Gould Street along Highway 151. The south half of that same roadway, which had been owned by the tech college decades ago, is being transferred back to the school as the city no longer plans to use it for a through street. The matter also requires school district approval. If all goes according to schedule, ground will be broken during the upcoming school year. The new gas utility technician program will be offered beginning in 2019 and is expected to graduate around 20 students per year with a starting salary currently estimated at $54-thousand-dollars.
