(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam police chief says cocaine and opium drug related crimes have gone up in 2017. John Kreuziger joined us recently on WBEV’s Community Comment to discuss the department’s annual report. Opium and cocaine drug sales totaled 16 in 2015 and 21 in 2016. In 2017 it went up to 31. Cocaine related possession arrests more than doubled in 2017 with 36 when compared to 2016 which had 18. Kreuziger says that is too high a number. He says it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to track down drug dealers. Kreuziger says when he became chief he knew there was a drug problem so efforts have been put in place such as adding an extra K-9 and placing officers on every shift. He says informational gathering is most important in locating drug dealers. Kreuziger his department communicates on regular basis and the drug detective on staff contacts Dodge County Drug Task Force to provide support. He added that citations written through the municipal court for drug violations jumped from 67 in 2016 to 95 last year.
