11/8/17 – Beaver Dam Common Council President Robert Ballweg is stepping down as the chairman of the city’s Operations Committee. He made the announcement at this week’s council meeting. There is no rule against the council president also chairing a committee but Ballweg says the move is meant to foster growth and allow others to move forward with leadership positions. He was elected by his peers as council president last month following the recent untimely passing of Alderman Don Neuert, who had held the post since April’s organizational meeting. The Operations Committee is one of Beaver Dam’s two primary standing committee’s along with the Administrative Committee. Operations is focused on matters of public works, parks and city infrastructure. Ballweg remain as chair of the Community Development Committee, which is comprised of elected and appointed officials and meets on a semi-regular basis to address economic development matters. The move is not immediate as Mayor Becky Glewen is now tasked with finding Ballweg’s replacement.
