(Madison) Badger Honor Flight has announced that they will be offering five flights for area veterans this year. The group has typically offered just four flights throughout the year but has added an additional excursion due to a growing wait list. The Madison-based Badger Honor Flight flies veterans to Washington DC to spend the day touring various sites including Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, among other war monuments.
Organizer Jim Bublitz says the spring flights are paid for leaving just the fall flight costs. He says fundraising efforts are still underway to cover all the expenses. The organization has an ultimate goal of raising $550,000 and still need close to $300,000. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Bublitz says their 8th Annual All-American cookout will be held John’s Bar in Beaver Dam on March 24 beginning at 11am and will run until 6pm. He says there will be a silent auction that will feature a rolling tool box, a grill, and gift baskets. Bublitz says the cookout was able to raise over $10-thousand dollars last year.
The Badger Honor Flights will be on April 21, May 12, September 22, October 13, and November 3. Bublitz is encouraging the public to attend the arrival of the flights each evening.
