4/23/17 – Two local advocacy groups are teaming up for April’s Sexual Awareness Month. Traci Scheffler from 5-Stones, which focuses on sex-trafficking, and Bobbi Jo Bentz from PAVE, which stands for People Against Violent Environments, recently joined WBEV’s Community Comment to discuss some of the things planned for the upcoming month. Bentz says that the events will shine more light on these types of crimes. On April 1 in Madison there was a Wrap Around the Capital-Survivors and Allies event that gave attendees an opportunity to share their experiences and journeys in healing. On April 26th, there will be a display of denim jeans at the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association. Denim Day is in honor of a 16-year-old girl who was raped by her driving instructor in Italy but the conviction was overturned because the Italian Supreme Court ruled that because the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the attacker, thereby implying consent.
