APRIL 6TH: FRESH TOMATO, T.V. DINNER, CARAMEL POPCORN

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup 

4 c. chopped fresh tomatoes

1 slice onion

4 whole cloves

2 c. chicken broth

2 Tbsp. butter

2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour

1 tsp. salt

2 tsp. white sugar, or to taste

In stockpot, over MEDIUM heat, combine tomatoes, onion, cloves & chicken broth. Bring to boil; gently boil for 20 minutes to blend all flavors. Remove from heat and run mixture through a food mill into large bowl, or pan. Discard any stuff left over in food mill. In the now empty stockpot, melt butter over MEDIUM heat. Stir in flour to make roux, cooking until roux is medium brown. Gradually whisk in bit of tomato mixture, so that no lumps form; stir in rest of mixture. Season with sugar and salt; adjust to taste.
