“There are people in our hotel who are not going to come back, there are people at our hotel who are going to fly back without their loved ones.” – Kristin Fabisch
10/2/17 – We are hearing about more and more Dodge County ties to the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas. A friend of WXRO Morning Show host Rick Armon called in Monday to report that his family in Las Vegas is safe. Charles Peck of Beaver Dam has a granddaughter who was in attendance at the concert and was wounded in the hip. He says she is fine and was given antibiotics. Peck also has a son who is metro sergeant in the city and was working at the concert; he was not injured. Kristin Fabisch of Beaver Dam was in Las Vegas during the deadly mass shooting. A former colleague of ours here at WBEV-WXRO, Fabisch is staying at the MGM Grand and can see the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino right outside her window. She is safe but says the experience has been chilling; the mood of the city has changed. Fabisch says there are still plenty of people walking around but there is a somber tone. Many hotels are expressing sympathies on their marquee’s and providing phone numbers for people to call who cannot find loved ones. “I mean, it’s still very much real,” she says. Fabisch is in Las Vegas visiting family along with her sister Brenda. A friend of theirs was five rows from the stage Sunday night when the shots rang out. The sisters were relieved to hear that she made it out of the venue unharmed. That friend was apparently questioned briefly and released early Monday morning. Fabisch says she tried to get tickets to the concert where the shooting occurred. Over the course of the weekend, she even befriended people who planned on attending the concert. “Other than my sisters friend, we don’t know if those people made it out,” Fabisch says, “There are people in our hotel who are not going to come back, there are people at our hotel who are going to fly back without their loved ones.” The shooters father, Benjamin Paddock, was born in Sheboygan in 1926.The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the father was bank robber diagnosed as a psychopath who is on the FBI’s most wanted list for a bank robbery in Arizona.
